Useful Latin Resources
Here you will find some of my favorite books, blogs, podcasts, websites, and whatnot. The hope is that these resources will assist you in your study of Latin. Underneath everything here you will need to know the grammatical forms to help you, so check out my video curriculum. And don’t forget the forums, there are many more tools and resources there… and free to discuss!
1. Start with a basic Latin text. If you are an older student and are looking for a grammatical approach, read Latin by Joseph Wheelock.
2.Next read Lingua Latina by Hans Orberg.
3.You may want to check out the podcast “Latinum” on iTunes. It can be quite dry at times. Do not listen while driving a car. Also, there is a pile of podcasts available, as the author adds content daily. These podcasts are for serious students only, by the way.
4.Flash cards are available for Lingua Latin. Just visit http://www.leakyroofproductions.com/DataFiles/Oerberg/contents.html.
5.You may also want to take a look at Quizlet at www.quizlet.com. A few simple games are available on the Quizlet site also. Everything is free.
6.One of my favorite places to look up words is www.etymonline.com. Often, by typing in Latin words, you will discover thousands of English words derived from Latin. And, of course, you can enter English words to find out where they came from. Don’t be surprised if they came from Latin!
7. Thanks to google, you can now download the vulgate onto a digital reading device, for free! Here is the New Testament.
